SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A mother claiming to be from San Francisco who said that she injected her 8-year-old daughter with Botox is now reportedly saying that she made up the story after being paid by a British tabloid newspaper.
Upton said she was paid a couple hundred dollars by the Sun newspaper in London to fabricate the story for their publication. The newspaper is apparently denying that any payment ever took place.
Campbell appeared with her daughter a week ago Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America." She claimed at the time that she enrolled the girl in beauty pageants and got the idea to give her Botox from other pageant mothers.
Photographs purportedly taken during the treatment and displayed on "Good Morning America" showed the girl with a bag of ice on her face in apparent discomfort. One picture showed Campbell injecting her daughter.
The San Francisco Human Services Agency, which investigates reports of child abuse, launched a probe after the TV appearance. But their investigators, much like many reporters, couldn't immediately locate a residence for the woman claiming to be Kerry Campbell in San Francisco. It appears Upton actually resides in the Los Angeles area.
