San Rafael Tutor Accused Of Physically Abusing Boys

UPDATE: On Dec. 7, 2011, the Marin County District Attorney's Office declined to pursue charges in this case, according to a published report in the Marin Independent Journal.

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) -- An after school tutor was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of physically abusing two elementary school boys, San Rafael police said.

Anthony Guido Rose, 49, of San Rafael, is suspected of poking a 10-year-old San Pedro Elementary School boy in the chest and pushing him backwards into a wall on Friday, police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

Rose also is suspected of poking an 11-year-old boy in the chest and pushing him to the ground about two weeks ago, Rohrbacher said. Both fifth-grade boys suffered head injuries, Rohrbacher said.

Rose worked as a paid tutor for Bay Area Community Resources in San Rafael that contracts with the San Rafael school district, Rohrbacher said.

The school's principal notified police of the allegations Tuesday and Rose was arrested at his home later that day, Rohrbacher said.

Rose was booked into the Marin County jail on felony charges of inflicting injury on a child and cruelty to a child, Rohrbacher said.

He posted $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Marin County Superior Court Oct. 11.

Bay Area Community Resources, founded in 1976, provides after-school programs in youth development, drug, alcohol, tobacco and mental health issues to individuals and families. A call to BACR for comment was not returned Wednesday afternoon.

Rohrbacher said the investigation is continuing.
