4 suspected in San Mateo attempted robbery arrested in East Bay
Authorities in the East Bay arrested four people suspected of attempted robbery on the Peninsula Thursday afternoon.
According to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, police in San Mateo alerted law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for a silver Audi associated with the robbery attempt around 3:50 p.m. Police attempted to pull over the vehicle after it crossed the San Mateo Bridge into Alameda County, but the driver did not yield.
Deputies said San Mateo police did not initiate a pursuit. Additional details about the attempted robbery were not immediately available.
With the help of a license plate reader, the sheriff's office Real Time Information Center located the Audi. The agency's airplane, known as ALCO 2, found the vehicle in San Leandro, near Washington Avenue and Spring Drive.
ALCO 2 continued to follow the Audi into Oakland. At Grand and Lake Park avenues, deputies said the people inside the Audi abandoned the vehicle and entered a black Mercedes that was waiting for them.
The airplane tracked the Mercedes to Emeryville, where deputies on the ground conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 80 near Powell Street. Deputies said all four people inside the vehicle complied with orders and were taken into custody.
"The incident concluded without reported collisions, use of force, or injuries to community members," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
Authorities did not release the suspects' names.
