San Jose State Squeaks Past Texas State, 31-20
SAN JOSE (CBS/AP) -- De'Leon Eskridge was a workhorse for the Spartans on Saturday, recording 25 carries for a career-high 134 yards, scoring his only touchdown of the afternoon on a 32-yard run with 5:23 remaining to put San Jose State up for good in a 31-20 win over Texas State.
San Jose State (6-2, 2-1 WAC) was up 24-20 before Eskridge gave them some breathing room over a pesky Texas State (3-4, 1-1) squad. Spartans quarterback David Fales was 26 of 38 for 376 and two touchdowns. The 571 total yards for the Spartans offense was a season high.
Texas State led 20-17 heading into halftime before Fales found David Freeman on a 78-yard touchdown strike on their second possession of the third quarter to put San Jose State up 24-20.
Bobcats running back Shaun Rutherford carried the ball 14 times for 70 yards including a 45-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
