Update: San Jose Police Arrest Suspects In 2 Separate Standoffs

SAN JOSE (CBS SF/BCN) -- San Jose police officers arrested two suspects in separate standoffs Monday morning -- one a domestic disturbance at a Willow Glen strip mall and the second with a burglary suspect inside a home on Primm Avenue.

Police said officers responded at 4:08 a.m. to the home on Primm Avenue. A burglary suspect had banged on the front door before entering the house through a window he broke early Monday morning and refusing to come out. The home was evacuated.

After several hours, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody. The suspect was taken away on a gurney, but there has been no word from authorities regarding his condition. Shortly before noon, family members were able to re-enter their home.

The suspect will be booked for residential burglary as well as other charges, police said. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Meanwhile, a domestic disturbance suspect who was barricaded inside a Willow Glen neighborhood strip mall. Police said officers responded to a family domestic dispute call at about 3:25 a.m. in the 1500 block of Meridian Avenue.

Police said there were two people inside a business at the mall shouting at each other. Officers did not know the nature of the dispute.

The two people involved in the disturbance -- a man and a woman -- refused to leave the mall at police command. Additional officers were called to the scene and a standoff has ensued.

Police later said that the standoff was resolved shortly before 9:45 a.m. and one man was taken into custody. The woman was not arrested, police said.

Police resources were stretched during the simultaneous standoffs.

"In these types of situations, time is on our side," said San Jose Police Sergeant Christian Camarillo. "We don't want to force a confrontation. We don't want to have some kind of violent resolution to this. The goal is always to end it peacefully, keeping in mind the safety of the suspect as well as our officers."

Meridian Avenue was closed between Minnesota Avenue and Alta Glen Drive during the police activity.
