San Jose Man Arrested For String Of Shootings Into Occupied Vehicles
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A 30-year-old man suspected of shooting into 10 occupied vehicles along San Jose's Blossom Hill Road corridor between May and August has been arrested, police said Wednesday.
The suspect, identified by San Jose police as Michael James Lee Lewis, was arrested at about 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday in connection with a string of early morning shootings into occupied vehicles.
Lewis was initially arrested in August on unrelated charges, according to police. When police conducted a follow-up investigation, and obtained a search warrant for Lewis' San Jose residence, they discovered a handgun, along with shell casings.
The Santa Clara County Crime Lab analyzed the handgun and determined the bullets recovered from four shootings along the Blossom Hill Road corridor were fired from the handgun, police said.
San Jose police Chief Eddie Garcia praised the San Jose Police Department's diligent work on this case at a time when the department is significantly short-staffed.
San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo also lauded the department, saying, "I commend the San Jose Police Department for their exceptional work to arrest an extremely dangerous suspect without any loss of life -— our officers continue to exceed expectations at a time when they remain historically shorthanded."
Lewis was taken to Santa Clara County Jail on four counts of attempted murder, as well as an outstanding felony warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
While none of the shootings are believed to have resulted in injuries, proporty damage was reported, police said.
