San Jose City Hall Peregrine Falcon Lays First Egg Of Season
SAN JOSE (BCN) -- A peregrine falcon nesting atop San Jose City Hall laid her first egg of the season on Friday morning, according to the mayor's office.
The newly laid egg marks the beginning of the third season that peregrine falcon Clara and her mate Esteban will raise their chicks on the City Hall's roof. However, city officials said that this is Clara's fifth nesting season on the roof.
The mayor's office said that the egg was delivered ahead of schedule, as Clara didn't lay her first egg last year until March 2.
In 2008 and 2009, the mayor's office said that her first eggs were laid on March 13 and March 12, respectively.
Falcons usually lay their eggs in 56-hour intervals, until a clutch of four eggs is complete, according to the mayor's office.
City officials are expecting Clara to lay the remaining eggs over the next couple of weeks.
