Research Monkey Bites Peninsula Lab Worker

MENLO PARK (AP) -- A Peninsula research facility is refusing to allow humane society examination of a monkey that bit a lab worker.

The San Jose Mercury News said Menlo Park's SRI International on Monday refused to allow examination of the monkey by a Peninsula Humane Society representative. A female researcher was bitten on Sunday.

SRI International said the facility is under federal oversight and the Peninsula Humane Society isn't entitled to access to its research animals.

SRI International said in a statement that the worker received a very minor injury to a finger and she is OK and on the job.

Police were called, and officers alerted the humane society.

There is no police report.
