Berkeley Shelter-In-Place Advisory Lifted After Search For Armed Man Ends
BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- A shelter-in-place order was lifted Friday evening after a Berkeley police search for an armed man seen roaming a residential neighborhood near downtown ended without an arrest.
The manhunt lasted for several hours after an officer spotted a man with a gun and gave chase. Police evenutally found a gun -- a semi-automatic with a high-capacity magazine -- but no suspect.
"We do not believe the suspect is in the area. We did a very thorough search," Lt. Joe Okies told KPIX.
At about 4:45 p.m., police had asked residents in the 2200 block of McKinley Street, the 1800 block of Allston Way, the 1800 block of Bancroft Way and the 2200 block of Grant Street to stay indoors or avoid the area altogether.
The area has since been secured, police said just before 7 p.m.
