Barry Bonds Reportedly Ousted By Marlins

(CBS SF) – The Miami Marlins have reportedly dismissed former San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds after one season as a hitting coach.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network first reported the news Monday, the day after the regular season ended.

The Marlins sought the all-time home run leader's advice after ending the 2015 season ranked next to last in the majors in runs and home runs, along with being last in walks.

"I'm extremely impressed with Barry's willingness to be part of this team, and with his excitement about being back and teaching," manager Don Mattingly said before the season.

While the Marlins scored 42 more runs compared to last year, Miami still had the 4th lowest amount of runs scored among all 30 teams. The team remained next to last in home runs and had the 5th lowest walk total in the majors.

A replacement has not been announced.
