'Baby Trump' Balloon To Fly In Los Altos During President's Visit To Peninsula

LOS ALTOS (CBS SF) – With U.S. President Donald Trump set to host a 2020 re-election fundraiser in the Peninsula on Tuesday, anti-Trump activists are planning to hoist a large "baby Trump" balloon in protest.

A location for the luncheon fundraiser has not been announced for security reasons, said Harmeet Dhillon, a California Republican Commiteewoman who is also an aide on the Trump campaign.

"He's going to be at that fundraiser where I will be and several hundred other supporters of his," said Dhillon, who added that the attendees will be told where to catch a shuttle bus and will be driven to the secret location of the fundraiser after that.

Activists with the Backbone Campaign have said they plan to fly the large baby Trump balloon in Los Altos, near the intersection of San Antonio Road and Foothill Expressway, between 10:15 a.m. and 4 p.m.

"Chicken Trump," a large inflatable balloon of Trump as a chicken, is also expected to make an appearance at the anti-Trump rally, Backbone Campaign officials said.

"This man is a coward," said protester Vara Ramakrishnan who will be displaying the Chicken Trump balloon.

"Why does a president--if he's so popular, if he's so beloved as he tweets all the time--why does he need to hide where he's going? Only a Chicken Trump would hide."

Tuesday's visit will mark the first time Trump has visited the Bay Area as president.

Tickets for Tuesday's fundraiser were going for anywhere between $1,000 per person to $100,000 per couple. The latter option included a chance to dine with Trump and a photo opportunity with him, according to the event invitation.

Trump is reportedly headed to Beverly Hills for an event on Tuesday evening and then on Wednesday he'll be in San Diego for another fundraiser.

Meanwhile, U.S. Housing Secretary Ben Carson is planning to visit a federal public housing project in San Francisco, according to San Francisco Mayor London Breed's spokesperson, Jeff Cretan. So far, Carson does not have any scheduled meetings with city officials, Cretan said.
