Man Shot Dead After Verbal Altercation In Rohnert Park; Shooting Believed To Be Gang-Related

ROHNERT PARK (CBS SF) -- A verbal altercation led to a fatal shooting of a man late Wednesday night in a Rohnert Park parking lot that police are characterizing as gang-related.

Officers responded to calls of a disturbance in the area of the Redwood Credit Union at around 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

Arriving officers discovered a man in his late 20s or early 30s, lying in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Attempts to revive him failed and he was declared dead at the scene. He was identified as 30-year-old Cotati resident Alan Albors.

About 20 officers from the Rohnert Park DPS came to the scene, closing down the westbound lanes of Rohnert Park Expressway, but no suspects were located.

After talking to witnesses and looking at surveillance cameras from businesses in the area, investigators determined Albors was parked in the credit union parking lot and sitting in his truck when a dark-colored sedan drove up and parked a few spaces away, police said.

There was some sort of interaction between a male suspect who stepped out from the sedan and Albors, which led to a verbal altercation that included another male subject from Albors's truck, according to police. After the suspect returned to his vehicle, Albors was seen walking up to the driver's side window when witnesses described hearing a gunshot.

Albors then walked away from the vehicle and collapsed in the roadway as the suspect vehicle drove away. The suspect was not identified but police said the incident was not a random act of violence and was believed to be gang-related.

The suspect vehicle was described as a 2009 or 2010 dark-colored, possibly gray Acura TSX, with a possible license plate of 7EAF822.  The front driver's side window is broken and the driver's side reverse light is out.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.  Anyone who sees the vehicle or has any information about the case was urged to call the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety at 707-584-2600. Callers can leave an anonymous tip by calling 707-584-COPS (2677) or sending an anonymous email to
