Police Identify Body Found At Bottom Of 30-Foot Embankment Trail As Los Gatos Man

CAMPBELL (CBS SF) -- A man whose body was found Saturday by the Los Gatos Creek Trail in Campbell has been identified as 50-year-old Ara Sarfarian, of Los Gatos, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

An autopsy to determine the cause of Sarfarian's death has not been conducted yet, an employee of the medical examiner's office said.

Campbell police were notified at 7:30 a.m. Saturday by people who noticed a body lying partially submerged in Los Gatos Creek at the bottom of a 30-foot embankment off of the creek trail near Hamilton Avenue, police Capt. Gary Berg said.

Officers found the embankment too steep to reach the body, so they called firefighters from the Santa Clara County Fire Department who used gear to rappel down the side to recover the body, Berg said.

Police did not find evidence to indicate there was anything suspicious about the man's death and did not receive any reports about a missing person, according to Berg.
