Pittsburg Courthouse Hit By Gunfire

PITTSBURG (CBS SF) -- Police were looking for a man who shattered a window at a courthouse in Pittsburg Friday morning when his shotgun discharged, police said.

The shots were fired around 7:40 a.m. at the Richard E. Arnason Justice Center, located at 1000 Center Drive, Pittsburg police said.

According to court officials, two shots were fired and one of the bullets shattered a window in the jury assembly room.

No one was injured.

Based on surveillance footage and witnesses, it appears a man discharged a shotgun while retrieving it from a hiding spot in bushes near City Hall, which is across the street from the courthouse, police said.

The courthouse does not appear to have been targeted, police said.

The suspect fled in a waiting red Chevrolet Suburban after the gun went off, according to police.

The courthouse was open Friday and was conducting business as usual, court officials said.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call the Pittsburg police tip line at (925) 427-7369.
