Phil Matier: Real Pressure In Brown's Budget Falls On Democrats
(KCBS) - The tax extensions in Gov. Jerry Brown's budget proposal last only five years, and closing the $25 billion deficit will require difficult cuts.
The Assembly Budget Committee and the State Senate take up the first formal review of his proposal Thursday. The legislature's non-partisan analyst released an assessment earlier in the week calling the governor's plan a good starting point.
The KCBS and Chronicle Insider looks at the roadblocks the new governor will nevertheless face, including Republicans reluctant to identify areas to cut and spin voters unlikely to agree to approve tax increases sold in complicated budget packages.
