Phil Matier: Flight Of Families Concerns San Francisco Supervisors
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is attempting to tackle the issue of "family flight" - defined by the thousands of families with school-age children who left the city in the past decade.
According to data in the 2010 Census, the number of families with children under 5 actually grew slightly in the last decade, though families with children age 5 to 18 left San Francisco in droves.
KCBS' Barbara Taylor Reports:
There seemed to be plenty of consensus at an hours-long Thursday hearing on the issue that there would be no quick solution, though it was hoped that the hearing alone would heighten awareness - and perhaps encourage more resolve on the part of local leaders to do something about it.
