Oakland Kid's Museum Cancels Palestinian Youth Exhibit After Jewish Groups Complain

OAKLAND (CBS/ AP) -- Officials at an Oakland's children's museum say complaints have prompted them to cancel a planned exhibit of drawings by Palestinian children showing how they saw the Israeli assault during the 2008-09 Gaza conflict.

The Museum of Children's Art had planned on displaying the drawings from Sept. 24 to Nov. 13. Museum officials said after getting complaints from Jewish groups and other members of the community, they notified the organizer of the exhibit they they were pulling the plug on the showing.

The drawings, done by children between the ages of 9 to about 11, showed bombs being dropped, tanks and people getting shot.

Hilmon Sorey, the chairman of the museum's board, said in a statement the exhibit was "not appropriate" for the museum.
