Clarksburg Chenin Blanc, Toad Hollow Erik's the Red, Dry Creek Heritage Zinfandel
BERKELEY (KCBS) - Here are three very appealing wines at some nice prices.
The 2011 Chenin Blanc from Clarksburg Wine Company is a fine reason to bring it back a grape variety that used to be a really popular in California but has kind of disappeared.
Fresh aromas of ripe melons lead to a crisp, bright minerally mouthful of delicious wine. The acidity brings a fine burst of flavor on the palate that lingers very nicely. It's a perfect luncheon or picnic wine priced at $16.
The Toad Hollow proprietary red wine, Erik's the Red, has a rich garnet color, and spicy floral and ripe berry aromas that make a fruity, delicious quaffing wine.
This blend of zinfandel, syrah, petite syrah, malbec and dolcetto from several regions around California is a perfect wine for pizza, for barbeque, or for a rich meat sauce pasta, priced at $14.99.
The 2010 Heritage Zinfandel from Dry Creek Vineyard has a deep, rich red color with a ripe raspberry aroma and lots of real fruit flavor that lingers long on the palate. This is a food wine in the style of a classic California cabernet. The alcohol is a moderate 13.5 percent alcohol, so it has a lovely balance and is ready to drink. It will also age gracefully. The price is $19.
