NAPA COUNTY (KCBS)— Napa Valley's winemakers are making a major charitable contribution to help with the recovery from Sunday's 6.0 earthquake.
At a news conference on Wednesday, Napa Valley Vintners announced a $10 million donation to establish the Napa Community Disaster Relief Fund.
Russ Weis, chair of the Napa Valley Vintners Association and the general manager at Silverado Cellars, said the funds would serve the immediate needs of the community affected by the natural disaster and would provide resources and assistance in order for the hundreds of homes and businesses damaged to rebuild.
County officials said a preliminary damage figure is about $300-million. That doesn't count economic losses from business closures and other related costs.
So far, there are 113 red-tagged and about 500 yellow-tagged structures in the city of Napa.
