New Online Dating Site Caters To Marijuana Smokers

(CBS SF) -- A new online dating site is carving out yet another niche among those looking for love by singling out singles who share an affinity for smoking marijuana.

My420Mate.com was launched recently (on 4/20) following a beta testing period in 2013 and 'created for Medical Marijuana patients, recreational smokers and all who are like-minded in such interests,' according to the website.

The service promises to weed out those potential mates that may not look kindly on people for whom 'cannabis is a big part of their lives.'

'What if you tell your potential partner that you smoke pot and they run for the hills? You just wasted your time on a relationship that was doomed from the start. With My420Mate.com you are in the clear.'

Broaching the subject of whether or not your date partakes can be touchy, the website claims.

'We take the uncertainty and awkwardness out of asking your date if they smoke pot.'

St. Louis, Missouri-based entrepreneur Jay Lindberg and his Los Angeles-based counterpart Miguel Lozano came up with the website idea as more states legalized marijuana and online dating services gained in popularity, according to the Riverfront Times.

"Some people might think it's just a dating site for hippies or stoners," Lindberg told the Riverfront Times. "This website is for people from all walks of life, from the medical-marijuana patients to casual smokers to business professionals who may be in the cannabis lifestyle but they keep it out of their professional life.

My420Mate.com calls itself the Cupids of Cannabis and its motto reflects the stated aim to spark up long-term romances: 'Plant your seed and watch your love grow.'
