Multiple Vehicles, 2 Big Rigs In Horrific Interstate 80 Crash In Dixon

DIXON, Solano County (CBS SF) - A semi-trailer smashed through the center divide along Interstate Highway 80 in Dixon Friday morning in a multiple-vehicle collision that shut traffic in both directions. Three people were injured but amazingly, no one was killed.

The big rig, which was hauling products from online retail giant Amazon, was traveling westbound on I-80 near just east of Pedrick Road just before 10:30 a.m. Friday when it was clipped by a Honda sedan. That collision sent the big rig plowing through the center divide into the eastbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Amazon truck then hit a white Subaru and another big rig traveling in the eastbound lanes. The force of the big rig's collision split the Subaru into three pieces, according to the CHP.

All four vehicles were driven by single occupants.

Originally, the CHP characterized injuries as "major." Later Friday it was determined a 40-year-old Hayward man driving the Subaru suffered moderate injuries, and a 47-year-old Vacaville man driving the Honda and a 67-year-old Auburn man driving the second big rig suffered minor injuries.

All three westbound lanes reopened shortly after noon, while eastbound traffic was flowing on just one lane until all lanes finally opened around 4:20 p.m.

The crash happened in nearly the same location on I-80 as a crash Thursday which followed a CHP chase of a suspect vehicle.
