'The Nifty Nine' Puppies Rescued From A Dumpster In Marin Have All Found Homes

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) -- Nine abandoned pups who captured the hearts of thousands across the country have all found loving homes.

When news that a good Samaritan rescued a litter of 9-week-old puppies from a dumpster in San Rafael last Tuesday, the response was overwhelming. People were shocked and outraged.

The Marin Humane Society determined they were Rottweiler/Labrador mixes, 5 males and 4 females, and announced they'd be available once they were spayed and neutered.

In a matter of days, little nonet of became known as the 'Nifty Nine," and the story of their plight spread like wildfire via the Human Society's Facebook page. People as far away as Texas wanted to take them home. According to one post:

"We've had an overwhelming response from people wanting to adopt one of the "Nifty Nine," the nine puppies who were abandoned in San Rafael. If you were moved by their story, please remember that many animals in our care come from sad circumstances. We hope you'll consider adopting another pup in need."

The Human Society's Lisa Bloch said "the response was incredible." The shelter received thousands of calls from folks who wanted to help in any way possible. By Saturday morning, Bloch said all nine pups were all adopted.
