Woman dies in Oakley outside her home that shut down Main Street
A woman died after she was hit by a vehicle near her Oakley home on Thursday morning, police said.
According to a Facebook post by the city of Oakley account, the crash in the Contra Costa County town was reported about 9:55 a.m. at Main Street and Ramos Ranch Road, where the collision happened "mere feet" from the woman's home, according to Oakley police.
Police did not provide any details regarding the collision as far as injuries or the number of vehicles involved, but it noted that there was no current threat to public safety.
The woman's family was at home at the time, police said. She died at the scene. The driver, a 77-year-old man, was hospitalized and was cooperating with police.
"It was learned the driver initially drove home, but voluntarily returned to the scene," Oakley officials said in a news release.
A medical impairment may have factored in the collision, but the investigation is ongoing and will include determining if drugs or alcohol were a factor, officials said.
Main Street was shut down for about three hours while police investigated.
