Lyft Driver Jumps Into Action After Woman Attacked, Robbed By Group Of Suspects In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A Lyft driver jumped into action after a group of suspects attempted to rob a 67-year old woman in San Francisco Wednesday.

San Francisco police say a witness saw a group of suspects jump out of a double parked car in the area of Union and Taylor Streets around 10:30 a.m. and attacked a victim in an attempt to take her purse.

Lyft driver Drew Gage also saw the assault after the victim screamed and chased the suspects down.

"It was a blood curdling sound and it stopped me in my tracks.  I looked and I saw all four girls sprinting down the block holding her bag," Gage told KPIX 5.

Drew confronted the teenage girls as they climbed into what turned out to be a stolen car, but one of the suspects said she had a gun.

"When the driver said that she had a gun, I pulled on the hood of this girl's sweatshirt."

Drew didn't see a gun, but kept his eyes on everybody's hands.

"One of them yelled at the driver, go go go.  They didn't floor it, but the wheel was running over the tip of my foot."

Gage says he reached in and grabbed the bag before the suspects got out of the car and ran off.
