Livermore Man Arrested in Stabbing of Teenage Son

LIVERMORE, Calif. (AP) _ A Livermore man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing his teenage son and wife with a fishing knife during a late-night argument.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Department says 48-year-old Gary Gomez took his wife, 14-year-old son and his son's two friends to go fishing around midnight Sunday.

Sgt. J.D. Nelson says the father and son got into an argument when one of the boy's friends said he had to go home, which upset the dad.

Nelson says the argument escalated into a fist fight, leading the father to pull out his fishing knife and stab his son 11 times. The man's wife was stabbed in the hand while trying to break up the fight.

After the wife and boys drove away, sheriff deputies arrested Gomez on suspicion of attempted murder and child endangerment.
