LeBron James Says Jay Z's 'A Star is Born' Helped Him Win NBA Championship

By Amanda Wicks

OAKLAND (RADIO.COM) – LeBron James accomplished his dream on Sunday (June 20) when he lead his hometown team the Cleveland Cavaliers to its first NBA Championship. And it turns out he may have found inspiration from none other than Jay Z.

Speaking with ESPN after the game, James opened up about the music he listened to while he was preparing to face off against the Golden State Warriors.

"I just always go back to the Jay Z song 'A Star is Born.'" he said, according to XXL Mag. "You guys back in the studio go look it up, listen to it. I just always listen to that and I always stay true to the game. I know what I'm capable of, not only on the floor but also off the floor as well, with my leadership and what I bring to the table."

"A Star is Born" features J. Cole and appears on Jay Z's 2009 album The Blueprint 3. On the track, he shouts out all the rappers who are doing great things. But even while he's giving love, Jay Z remains the original and nobody can touch him. "I seen MA$E do it, I seen Ye do it/ X came through, caught lighter fluid/Still I came through it/ Clap for em/ But I'm the blueprint/ I'm like the map for em/ I dropped another classic/ Made Puff pass it," he raps.

Even with newer talent emerging every season, especially in the form of Steph Curry, James knew he had the reputation and talent to bring a championship home to Cleveland. And he did.

Jay Z is an equal fan of James. He and Bey attended Game 6 and got pretty cozy as they sat court side.
