Lamborghini Rides Kick Off With Week Of Surprises Marking 5th Anniversary Of Uber

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - You called for an UberX but got a Lamborghini? The taxi alternative company says that's one of the surprises it has planned for riders over the next five days. Sure, it's a shameless publicity stunt, but it's also pretty cool.

Five years after launching, the San Francisco company now operates in 58 countries and 311 cities. The company says that works out to about a million rides a day. This week, some of those rides will be in luxury, others will come in the form of trolley car.

"Request an uberX ride today from 4pm to 7:30pm, and a special vehicle might arrive to pick you up! Maybe you'll get a trolley. Maybe a Lamborghini or a Bentley. Take a chance this afternoon, and you could score a ride to remember," reads the Uber blog post about the promotion.

But that's just Monday.

The company says Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will feature other surprises. Each day, they'll leak the news to the public here.
