KPIX 5 Poll: Majority Of San Franciscans Support New Warriors Waterfront Arena

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- A majority of San Francisco residents continue to support building a new arena along the city's waterfront to lure the Golden State Warriors across the Bay from Oakland, according to a KPIX-TV poll released Monday evening.

The poll, conducted for KPIX 5 by the firm SurveyUSA, found 59% of those questioned were in favor of the proposed basketball arena for the NBA franchise to be located at Piers 30-32. The Warriors currently play at Oracle Arena in Oakland, but have expressed a desire to move to a privately-financed in San Francisco.

Just 25% were opposed to the idea, while 16% were not sure about the concept.

The KPIX poll involved 500 city residents who were surveyed Feb. 28 through March 3. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

The results were similar to past polls conducted on the topic by other organizations, suggesting public support has continued in the months since the idea was first proposed.
