From 'Big Night' to 'Ratatouille' there is nothing better than using food as a metaphor in film.

In the new film, 'The Hundred-Foot Journey', we meet a family that is displaced from their native country, India. They settle in a small French town to open a restaurant, but once the ice queen proprietress meets them from the restaurant across the street, she's ready to make sure they don't get too comfortable.

This film has wonderful sets and a terrific soundtrack for ambiance and includes plenty of detail. Not to mention, it will make you want to travel to Southern France, but it also makes you hungry for both French and Indian cuisine.

It's from the same director who gave us 'Chocolat' back in 2000. Lasse Hallstrom certainly gave us food there too, but he's also responsible for the 'Cider House Rules'. His story has heart and Helen Mirren's performance is top notch. Om Puri is cast in the lead as well. He's like the Spencer Tracy of India.

Overall, this film works really works well. It's worthwhile and is fun to see.
