Help Aussie Koalas Burnt In Mass Fire By Sending Mittens To Save Their Paws!
The Australian Marine Wildlife Research and Rescue Organization is asking for international knitters worldwide to help outfit koalas burnt in major wildfires this week with 100% cotton sheet out towel mittens.
Because koalas tend to stay high up in eucalyptus trees, they often have trouble escaping fires. As a result, the paws of many of them were seriously injured.
"Just like any burns victim, koalas' dressings need changing daily, meaning a constant supply of mittens is needed by wildlife carers," Josey Sharrad, IFAW native wildlife campaigner said. "Some burned koalas can take up to a year to fully recover."
If you'd like to help, here's the koala mitten pattern, via the International Fund for Animal Welfare, the organization collecting the mittens.
When you finish, send them directly to IFAW at 6 Belmore Street, Surry Hills 2010 in New South Wales, Australia. Just remember they need to be made from 100% cotton.
