Good Question: Do Trees Grow Stronger In Windy Areas?

(CBS 5) – It seems to happen every time there is a massive storm, trees are knocked down. Rob Ireson from Greenbrae asked this Good Question: Do trees grow stronger in windy areas?

ANSWER: Trees can actually grow a somewhat stronger root system and more protective top growth if they are subject to frequent wind and bad weather.

According to arborist Ted Kipping, many trees are affected by weather conditions, such as moisture and heat and can adapt to some extent. Many of California's native species such as redwoods, bay, and certain oak trees grow well in these extreme environments of hot and cold.
