Golden Gate Ferry Captains Announce One-Day Strike Friday, Impacting Giants Game

(CBS SF) --  Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District ferry captains Thursday morning announced a one-day strike planned for Friday that will shut down the agency's ferry service for the day.

The strike by ferry captains with the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association comes during a contract dispute between the bridge district and a coalition of labor unions that already led to a one-day strike by machinists on Sept. 16.

That strike did not affect public transit or bridge traffic, but Friday's action will prompt the district to shut down ferry service for the day.

The strike will last from 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. with no ferry service between the Larkspur, San Francisco Ferry Building and Sausalito terminals, including during the San Francisco Giants game.

No other transit services will be affected by the strike, according to the union.

Bridge district officials said they are continuing to negotiate in good faith with the unions and have another bargaining session planned for Monday.
