Glen Campbell's Last Show In Napa Marks End of an Era

NAPA (KCBS) - Legendary entertainer Glen Campbell played the last show of his farewell tour at a small theater in the North Bay Friday night, marking the end of a remarkable 60-year run of performing for millions of fans across the globe.

He had plenty of hits over the years, among them "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Gentle On My Mind," and won Grammy Awards in the country and pop genres, making him - in the minds of music aficionados - the first "crossover" artist.

"I never looked at anything like this is country and this is rock and this is pop, you know," he once said.

Over his six-decade career, he played with Elvis and the Beach Boys, co-starred in a movie with John Wayne and hosted his own variety show.

He revealed to fans in June 2011 that he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease and intended to say "farewell" to his fans in the form of a "farewell tour" of sorts, in 2012.

Uptown Theatre Napa was the venue for his final show of the farewell tour.

"I think it was just a twist of fate for us, how it worked out," reasoned Mindi Levine, the Theatre's Marketing Director.

"And obviously," she continued, "we're absolutely thrilled."
