Five Officers At SFSU Suffer Minor Injuries In Chemical Reaction

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- San Francisco Police and fire crews responded to San Francisco State University where several officers were exposed to a harmful substance.

Five officers came into contact with a substance that had been confiscated during a police call. SFSU Spokeswoman Ellen Griffin told KCBS that it happened as officers were testing the substance.

KCBS' Chris Filippi Reports:

"When the testing kit was combined with the substance it created a reaction that had been unanticipated," said Griffin. "It was described as a pop, combined with some sort of an odor."

One of the officers was taken to the hospital, but was released shortly afterward, the others were treated on the scene.

There is no word as to what the substance was.
