Body Found In Sunnyvale Home After Fire Caves In Roof

SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- Firefighters controlled a two-alarm fire that destroyed a Sunnyvale home and found one person dead Tuesday morning, a fire official said.

The fire was reported at the corner of Fisherhawk and Cardigan drives at about 5 a.m., Department of Public Safety Capt. Jeff Hunter said.

The single-story house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Crews fought the fire defensively to prevent it from spreading.

They managed to control the blaze, but the house was left with its roof caved in and the exterior walls unstable.

As firefighters entered the house they found one body inside, Hunter said.

Neighbors told KCBS' Matt Bigler that the man person who lives there is an elderly man who lives alone is a former engineer.

The identity of the man has not been released and an investigation is underway.
