Firefighter May Face Charges For Death Of Asiana Crash Survivor
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A San Francisco firefighter could face charges for the death of a sixteen-year-old girl who survived the Asiana Airlines crash at SFO, according to authorities.
Police have completed their investigation into the death of the Asiana Airlines crash survivor who was run over by a fire truck on the runway, and investigators handed their findings to prosecutors Friday to review. They were expected to decide within two weeks whether the firefighter driving the truck that ran over Ye Mengyuan would face any charges.
The two-axle truck was believed to have run over Ye as it moved to get a better position to spray foam on the burning Boeing 777 shortly after it crashed July 6.
She suffered crushing injuries to her head and pelvis, according to the autopsy report that the San Mateo County coroner gave to the girl's family this week.
Fire Department officials were still investigating the incident, but have called the teen's death a "tragic accident."
