Do The Truffle Shuffle! 'The Goonies' Turns 30

ASTORIA, OR (K-EARTH) – It's hard to believe, but the movie that coined the "Truffle Shuffle" and inspired an entire generation of youth to embark on backyard adventures in search of hidden treasure is turning 30 this month.

The Goonies was originally released June 7, 1985, and to celebrate its 30th anniversary, one Oregon town is bringing movie-lovers together for the ultimate fan-fest.

The town of Astoria, Oregon – which Goonies fans will recognize as the movie's setting – is hosting a four-day event in celebration of the film from June 4-7. According to the website Goondocks.com, activities over the event include tours of film locations, bowling at "Chunk's Bowling Alley," costumed quote-a-long film screenings, sipping Truffle Shuffle stout from the local Fort George Brewery, a scavenger hunt and more.

The movie, directed by Richard Donner and written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus, follows a group of adventurous teens, led by Mikey Walsh, as they go out in search of hidden treasure from the infamous pirate "One-Eyed Willy" after Mikey discovers his treasure map in his home.

The movie helped launch the careers of then-unknowns including actors Sean Astin (Mikey), Josh Brolin (Brandon Walsh), Corey Feldman (Mouth), Kerri Green (Andy), Martha Plimpton (Stef), Jonathan Ke Quan (Data) and Jeff Cohen (Chunk).

The highly-quoted film has become so beloved in pop culture that the film's cast and crew have reunited in similar anniversary celebrations in the past, including for its 25th anniversary on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank (pictured above).

Even if you can't make the trek to the film's original location in Oregon to celebrate all the festivities, you can always commemorate the occasion by doing the Truffle Shuffle at home. Or maybe just re-watch the movie for funsies and relive your treasure-hunt fantasies all over again.
