Daily Madden: Florida Gulf Coast's Big Surprise

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - No. 15-seed Florida Gulf Coast University pulled two major upsets to advance to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

"I love the underdog and I want root for them," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "Florida Gulf Coast, what is it? You don't even know it's a school. You don't that they play basketball. You don't know they're going to be in the Sweet 16. You talk about a group that came from nowhere."

Madden said it's less surprising to the team than it is to the outside world.

"They've been working together and kind of putting this thing together," Madden said. "It didn't just happen overnight or by accident. I think they know what they are and who they are, and have a heck of a lot more confidence than anyone does from the outside." (7:00)
