Daily Madden: A Conversation With Stanford Coach David Shaw

STANFORD (CBS SF) - Stanford is ranked fourth in the BCS standings after a comeback triple overtime victory at USC Saturday.

"When you got guys on your team that have mental toughness and leadership skills like Andrew Luck and a lot of our leaders, you can fight through a game like that," Stanford coach David Shaw told John Madden and the KCBS morning crew.

Madden asked Shaw if the BCS standings means anything to the coaches and players.

"We have so much more to do in our conference, and you can't look at that stuff until you take care of your conference," Shaw said. "That's got to be our priority, and whatever our ranking is and wherever that puts us after we do our business in our conference, then we'll take it."

Madden said he's impressed not only by Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck's skill, but his toughness. John said he'd want Luck on his team no matter what the competition.

"I would say I'll take Andrew Luck number one, and then we'll decide what we're going to play later." (7:55)
