Community Corner: Eating Out For Charity

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - A locally-based program allows participants to help their favorite charities, simply by dining out.

GoodDining is the latest project of GoodSearch.com and is the first ever national dine out for charity program in conjunction with 10,000 restaurants nationally and 200 in the Bay Area.

Scott Garell, CEO of GoodSearch, says the mission of their company is to empower anyone to change the world through simple everyday actions.

Garell says it's easy to register at GoodDining.com. When registered participants dine out at any of the listed restaurants, up to six percent of the total bill will automatically be donated to the cause of their choice.

Local restaurants & bars participating include Colibri, Butterfly, Ozumo, 5A5 Steaklounge, Postrio and more.

There are 106,000 charities to choose from including the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Project Open Hand, Habitat for Humanity, and Meals on Wheels to name a few.

Good Search also provides an easy way to give back simply by using their search engine or shopping at popular sites through their online shopping mall.

To date, the company has helped raise $9 million for charity.

Garell says there is a core belief that people want to help even during tough times when they may not be able to help financially.

"If you don't have the money to do so, or the time to do so, we're a place to go and give back and feel great about that as you shop, as you search, as you dine," Garell says. "Make a difference through your actions. It really is giving back without giving money."
