COMMENTARY: 6 Shot, 1 Dead, 0 Arrested -- What Is Wrong In Richmond?

COMMENTARY (CBS SF) -- Richmond could be a vibrant community, once you get past the cracked sidewalks, boarded up windows, broken streets, industrial eye sores and graffiti.

Richmond has the most powerful industries in modern times -- Chevron, Railroads, Shipping. It has valiant teachers. It has small business owners who want to succeed in that community. It has dedicated police officers walking their beats. It has great access to transit with BART, Amtrak, bus service and casual carpool. It has a beautiful harbor, and even a pristine yacht club. It has fine dining in Point Richmond.

What it doesn't have is answers.

Despite "cease fire" walks nearly every week, six teenagers have been shot. Six. Six bullets. Six victims. One is dead.

The others are scarred for life, emotionally and physically. And the community is torn by this violence. They suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Every siren piercing the foggy night air might be an indicator that your friend is now in the hospital. Or the morgue. No arrests. 6 shot. 0 arrests.

People are not coming forward. They don't come forward. They don't want to be the 7th victim.

What is the solution?

With companies like Google, Apple, Facebook, Salesforce just across the Bay, can they be the answer? With major community partners like Chevron already working in the city, WHY is it not enough? If you've read this far in this post, you obviously care. Do you have an answer?
