Clock Ticking On Muni Contract Dispute; Both Sides In Talks

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— San Francisco Muni officials and the Transportation Workers Union are in talks with a mediator about the contract dispute that prompted last week's three-day driver sick-out.

SF Municipal Transportation Agency spokesman Paul Rose would only confirm both sides are talking—something union officials previously said they would not do.

Hundreds of Muni workers called out sick Monday through Wednesday of last week after rejecting a contract making them the second-highest paid transit workers in the country. The union emphasizes it did not authorize or call for the sick-out.

Muni said if the union does not reach an agreement by June 15th, the current contract will stay in effect and a pay increase taking effect July 1st will not happen.
