CBS Renews 'The Mentalist,' Cancels Other Series

(CBS NEWS) - Renewals and cancellations for CBS series have started trickling out.

Here's what won't be returning next season: "Intelligence" with Josh Holloway and "Hostages" starring Dylan McDermott, along with the comedies "Bad Teacher" and "Friends with Better Lives" starring James Van Der Beek and Kevin Connolly.

CBS is also giving the axe to "The Crazy Ones," the star-studded freshman sitcom starring Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Back in February, Gellar told CBS News, "We have such amazing other castmates and we're going to focus on that. I'm hoping for a season 2. I think that's where we'll really find ourselves. That's what happened to us with 'Buffy' -- we really found ourselves in season 2."

Over the weekend, Gellar tweeted:

Good news, though, for fans of Simon Baker's "The Mentalist." The crime drama will see a seventh season.

CBS expects to introduce some new shows in the mix, too, including "Battle Creek" with Josh Duhamel, which is getting a full-season order. Duhamel recently told CBS News that he couldn't pass up the chance to work on the upcoming series from "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan.

"It's a throwback old-school cop show. I play an FBI agent whose setting up a satellite office in Battle Creek, Mich. We work together some of the local detectives in this underfunded run-down department...it's a contrast between local law enforcement and the FBI. It's funny, but it's also a serious procedural at the same time."

Also new for CBS? "NCIS: New Orleans," "CSI: Cyber" "Madam Secretary," "Scorpion, "The McCarthys" and "The Odd Couple."
