A Lot Of People Do Not Want The 2024 Olympics In San Francisco

You know what San Francisco doesn't need? A massive influx of people and debt in the 7x7 caused by the Olympic Games in 2024.

At least, that's what the SF No 2024 Olympics committee is arguing.

This Thursday, the US Olympic Committee will decide between what U.S. city (out of SF, Boston, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C.) will go up as a bid for the 2024 Olympics. While the USOC CEO Scott Blackmun called the upcoming choice a "four-way tie", many San Franciscans are wishing the Bay's name to be taken out of contention.

The SF No 2024 Olympics group argues, among many things, that the city cannot handle going into debt, which as SFist notes, has regularly cost the host city way more than anticipated, and local taxpayers in the already expensive Bay Area cannot handle that taxpayer burden. After all, we're still trying to forget the fact that the America's Cup cost us $11.5 million dollars.

In addition to the already tense housing crisis, they say, even more people trying to find lodging in the city will only worsen the living climate.

Do you think the city should host the 2024 Games?
