68 Homes Burned By Clover Fire In Shasta County

REDDING (CBS/AP) -- Fire officials say crews assessing the damage from a Northern California wildfire have determined 68 homes were destroyed.

That's up from the earlier tally of 37.

State fire information officer Roy Del Carlo said Thursday the count of outbuildings destroyed by the Clover Fire in Shasta County also went up, from 74 to 128. Additionally, five homes were damaged, one more than previously thought.

One person has been found dead in the fire's perimeter. Deputies on Tuesday discovered the body of a 56-year-old man in a motor home destroyed by the fire.

Del Carlo says crews are making progress against the blaze, which began Monday in the community of Happy Valley, about 150 miles north of Sacramento.

The fire was 65 percent contained as of Thursday morning, having burned about 12 ½ square miles.
