5 Arrested During Petaluma DUI Checkpoint, Patrols
PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- Petaluma police arrested five people on suspicion of driving under the influence during a checkpoint and saturation patrols on Saturday night, a police sergeant said.
At the checkpoint, conducted between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday, officers screened 649 drivers for signs of DUI and to check their driver's licenses, police Sgt. Jim Stephenson said.
Officers administered field sobriety tests to 13 drivers and eight were arrested, he said.
Police arrested one person for DUI. Others were arrested for driving with a suspended license or without a license, Stephenson said.
Due to inclement weather police ended the checkpoint and administered saturation patrols, conducted between 10 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday, which resulted in four DUI arrests, Stephenson said.
The operations were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
