2-Alarm Fire Burns San Leandro Apartment Building
SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- Fire burned at an apartment building in a San Leandro neighborhood Wednesday, officials reported.
The fire was reported just after noon Wednesday and was burning at a two-story apartment building at the corner of Juana Ave. and Grand Ave. just west of Interstate 580 in San Leandro.
Flames had spread from a ground-floor unit to the second floor, and fire crews received reports of someone possibly trapped, although they quickly learned the person had exited the building safely, fire officials said.
The blaze was extinguished within 15 minutes of firefighters' arrival, with the fire damage contained to the ground-floor unit and one directly above it on the second floor, according to the fire department.
During the evacuation of neighboring units, a San Leandro police officer found a dog hiding alone in a second-floor apartment. The dog, a 10-year-old Maltese poodle named Cream Puff, was eventually reunited with its family, fire officials said.
Four people were displaced by the blaze and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
