Yuba City Officer, Woman Shot Overnight

YUBA CITY (CBS13) - Police are investigating the overnight shooting of a Yuba City police officer and a woman.

Police officials say a man and a woman were standing in the middle of on Winslow Drive when Yuba City police officers on patrol approached the two. The man was cooperative, but the woman reportedly squatted on the road.

As one of the officers took the woman's arm to help her stand, a hand gun in her waistband fired, hitting both the woman and the officer in the stomach area. Both were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"What happens now is the officers continue to talk to the male half in this case. The female is obviously unable to be talked to right now; she is being treated for her wounds, as well the officer," said Shawna Pavey, an operations support manager for Yuba City Police Department.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.
