SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A hometown hero was stabbed, a former Congressional candidate admitted sending death threats to herself and a Marine veteran was beaten over a mistaken case of stolen valor in October.

10. Man Shot, Killed In Sacramento Apartment As Children Slept Upstairs

Shell casings were found outside the apartment; investigators believe the shooting took place at the doorway. Two young kids were sleeping in the apartment at the time of shooting, police say.

"He's a father, he's a brother, a young man, didn't even reach 30 years old," said Faye Johnson, the victim's aunt.

A Marine Corps vet who served his country in combat says he was attacked by someone who believed he was lying about his military service.

What people do in the bathroom is usually considered a private matter, but managers at one local Department of Motor Vehicles call center say some of their employees are taking too long on the toilet and not enough time working.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, officers were first called to the scene a little before 8:30 a.m. and found a man had been shot. Medics who soon responded to the scene pronounced him dead.

Only after putting together the gift from his aunt did she see what her son was playing with. The dark-skinned character with no shoes and tattered pants came with instructions to put some sort of neck piece on him.

Sacramento police say it happened early Monday morning in a parking lot at Kaiser South medical center. They say Juan Gomez knocked on the officer's patrol car window and lured the officer out. The officer, taken by surprise, was knocked to the ground.
