Atmospheric River Sweeps Through Northern California

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – It was a cold, stormy weekend in Sacramento – the type of weather the region hasn't often seen in the past few years.

"We need the rain, California needs the rain," said Elk Grove resident Chafik Zidah.

After a break in the rain on Saturday, our area got hit hard again on Sunday. Pouring rain caused wet, slippery roads and low visibility – leading to car accidents this morning.

Michael Dillard made sure he was cautious while driving.

"Some people don't like it, some people not happy. But hey, I got to look out for my life," Dillard said.

As one system moved out, another moved in as a second storm came through Sunday afternoon.

Local parks experienced some ponding and minor flooding, to the joy of ducks and birds.

As it cleared up, beautiful colors popped out. A rainbow dazzled over Sacramento.

"I think it's wonderful," Dillard said.

The cold temperatures and wet weekend weren't a deterrent for ice cream fans.

The line was out the door at Cream in Elk Grove, with folks saying they couldn't resist the tasty, but cold, treat.

"It's cream. You can't say no to cream," Chafik Zidah said.

And as they ate away, they said they're hopeful more rain is on its way.

"Hopefully we get more good, healthy rain," Zidah said.
